Open call for Board Members
The York Region Arts Council (YRAC) is currently seeking qualified individuals to join our Board of Directors. A single term of office for a Director is three (3) years. The Board meets virtually every other month and regular attendance and participation are required. Ad hoc communication and meetings may also be required, as needed. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for emerging or established professionals with an interest in arts, culture, and/or tourism to make an impact on the arts community in York Region and beyond.
We are in need of individuals with knowledge/expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Legal services
Accounting/finance
Frameworks of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Sustainability (IDEA)
YRAC also values experience in the following areas: arts & artistic development, business development, cultural advocacy, cultural and social policy & research, digital media, government relations, environmental advocacy, event planning, human resources, Indigenous relations, marketing and communications, operations/administration/governance, partnerships and sponsorships, philanthropy and fundraising, public relations, strategic planning, and tourism.
Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in the numbered fields above, as well as individuals from equity-deserving groups including Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, LGBTQ2S+, and persons with disabilities.
In addition to Regular Board Members, we are specifically seeking to fill the role of:

Board Member responsibilities include:
Attend bi-monthly Board Meetings with regular attendance. Meetings are currently being held virtually.
Provide support for Board and/or Staff initiatives as needed (attending events, preparing/reviewing materials, providing expertise, etc.).
An overall time commitment of approximately 4-8 hours monthly for a minimum 3-year term.
Assets for this position include:
Some experience with nonprofits
An interest in the arts/tourism
Familiarity with York Region
Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

In addition to General Board Member duties, above, the Treasurer position requires:
As the custodian of the books of account and accounting records of the Corporation in accordance with the provisions of the Corporations Act, the Treasurer is required to:
Prepare financial reports for board meetings, as well as the AGM (held annually in May), and meetings with other funders as necessary.
Submit an annual audited financial report to the Board and the Corporation of the financial operations of the Corporation
Assist the Executive Director with accounting as needed (may be done through meetings, phone calls, emails, etc.)
An overall time commitment of approximately 4-8 hours monthly for a minimum 2 year term.
Assets for this position include:
A firm grasp of accounting/bookkeeping principles
Experience with nonprofit organizations
Working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
